About
Columbus is a P-5 school. P-5 is a program which serves disadvantaged, high risk students from pre-school to grade 5. Our State funds allow us to lower class size and provide early intervention for our students. We're also taking part in the Title One program. Funds are provided by the Federal Government to improve reading and math skills for students. Columbus functions as a professional learning community where teachers meet weekly to plan instruction, analyze and deveelop formative assessments and plan interventions to meet student needs. All teachers participate in coaching sessions in reading and math. Each student receives intervention or enrichment in Math four days per week.
We have a partially included school. Children who are incuded for the entire day are those who are emotionally disturbed, learning disabled, borderline cognitively disabled, hearing impaired, visually impaired, and those who have ADD and ADHD. These students, with the exception of the ADD and ADHD ones, are funded partially with State funds directed by our district. Our other students are funded with district funds. We provide free and reduced breakfast and lunch every day to 75% of our students.
